Honda Accord vs Nissan Altima

Drivers Guide to Automotive Maintenance eBook CTA

Midsize sedan seekers throughout Panama City, Springfield, and Callaway often look for good fuel economy, a spacious interior, and plenty of features. Two vehicles that encompass these characteristics are the 2018 Honda Accord and the 2018 Nissan Altima. However, which one would better satisfy your driving needs?

2018 Honda Accord

To help answer that question, our team at Honda of Bay County created this Honda Accord vs. Nissan Altima comparison. We'll give you a detailed look at each vehicle to help you make an informed decision. Read all about them below, and contact us if you have any questions.

Powerful & Fuel-Efficient Performance

The Honda Accord comes standard with a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. There's also an available 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

The Accord is highly fuel-efficient, as well. When the engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), it causes the vehicle to achieve an EPA-estimated 30 city/38 highway MPG.*

The Nissan Altima, on the other hand, comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that puts out just 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Even though the vehicle also achieves an EPA-estimated 38 highway MPG, the city fuel economy rating is just 27 MPG. If you frequently drive through stop-and-go traffic, you may need to visit the gas station more to refuel.

Interior Space & Features

The 2018 Accord interior offers plenty of space for up to five people, especially for those in the back seat. It has 37.3 inches of rear headroom, 40.4 inches of rear legroom, and 105.6 cubic feet of passenger volume.

The 2018 Altima, while still spacious, offers just 37.1 inches of rear headroom, 36.1 inches of rear legroom, and 101.9 cubic feet of passenger volume.

The Honda Accord also has a 16.7-cubic-foot trunk to fit all your needed items inside. The Nissan Altima, meanwhile, has 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space, so you may not be able to easily fit everything inside the trunk.

Furthermore, both vehicles offer heated front seats to stay nice and warm on chillier nights. Plus, the Accord comes standard with Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control. This allows the driver and front-seat passenger to choose their preferred temperature settings, so no one needs to stay too hot or too cold. In order to get that feature in the Altima, you need to upgrade to a higher trim level.

Advanced Safety Options

2018 Honda Accord Interior Styling

The 2018 Accord and 2018 Altima are seen as very safe vehicles. In fact, they were both awarded a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The Accord comes standard with Honda Sensing® and with specific headlights. This intelligent suite of driver-assisting technologies helps you stay more aware on the road to prevent an accident from occurring. Some of the features in this suite are...

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™: Will help apply the brakes if it detects an unavoidable collision with a vehicle in front of you.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System: If you begin to stray from your lane without using a turn signal, the system will use corrective steering to get you back to your lane center.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition: Uses a small camera to recognize speed limit signs, and will notify you of them with a visual icon.

While the Nissan Altima offers plenty of driver-assisting technologies, many of them don't come standard. Plus, it doesn't offer Traffic Sign Recognition in any of its trim levels.
